Cynthia Schaller, Former Director of Operations

Cindy Schaller works with employers and pharmacy network coordinators to implement the Foundation’s umbrella patient self-management program, HealthMapRx™, manages the business operations and communication, and oversees administration of core programs for the Foundation.  Ms. Schaller received an M.B.A. in Non-Profit Management from George Washington University.

Toni Fera executes Foundation programs working with pharmacists and employers to establish and support their workplace initiatives.  Dr. Fera earned B.S. and Pharm.D. degrees from the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy and has more than 20 years experience in health care administration.

William M. Ellis, Former Chief Executive Officer, APhA Foundation

Bill Ellis is CEO of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation, a non-profit organization that serves thousands of patients, physicians and pharmacists each year by designing solutions to medication-use problems including those related to cardiovascular health, diabetes and other chronic diseases.

As CEO, Mr. Ellis oversees all APhA Foundation activities, including awards programs, research initiatives and related consulting services.  He serves on the Healthcare Practitioner Advisory Council of the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA), and represents APhA on the National Quality Forum.

Mr. Ellis received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science (1985) and M.S. in Health Education from St. Joseph’s University (1994), and completed a one-year post-graduate program in association management.

John P. Miall, APhA Foundation Consultant and President, Miall Consulting

John Miall is helping to implement the Diabetes Ten City Challenge nationwide, serving as a consultant to the APhA Foundation and member of the Diabetes Ten City Challenge Advisory Committee.  From 1975-2005, he served as the director of risk management for the City of Asheville, where he was one of the visionaries behind the Asheville Project. 

Currently, Mr. Miall is president of Miall Consulting in Asheville, N.C. and an internationally recognized speaker on risk management and health care innovation.  He is a graduate of Montreat-Anderson College and the University of North Carolina at Asheville.

Benjamin M. Bluml, Vice President for Research, APhA Foundation

Ben Bluml has designed and directed practice-based research initiatives and wellness and disease management programs at the APhA Foundation since 1996, including innovative collaborative care programs Project ImPACT: Hyperlipidemia™, Project ImPACT: Osteoporosis™ and, more recently, Project ImPACT: Depression™.

Mr. Bluml handled the software development, data collection and analysis that is critical to the success of the Patient Self-Management Program for Diabetes SM, and continues to do so for the Diabetes Ten City Challenge. He served as a member of the White House Roundtable on the National Pharmaceutical Supply Chain for the President’s Council on Year 2000 Conversion, and is a recognized expert in patient confidentiality systems, collaborative practice and in establishing practiced-based research networks.

Mr. Bluml earned a B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1984.
